Teflon FEP Tubing: Catering Various Industrial Needs

Installation of an effective tubing system constitutes an important part of industrial operations. This might surprise to most of the people that how tubes can be important element in industries because generally it is believed that industrial operations are mainly conducted by making use of heavy machines.

Although, it is true to huge extent but every industry has its own specific requirements and depending upon those requirements different types of machineries are installed. For instance, in an automobile industry, you will find heavy machines involved in production of items made from iron. In such industries the machines which is used to produce the items are specifically meant for developing those items only.

But, if you visit any other industry like a food processing industry, chemical or gas producing industry, any medical industry or computer manufacturing industry, you will find various types of tubes installed there for the machineries and the products. In a paper or textile industry, you will find the rollers which used to transfer the material from one phase to another, are covered with roll covers made of Teflon FEP or PVC. These Heat Shrinkable FEP Roll Covers are strong enough to operate smoothly under extreme climatic conditions and, are chemical and weather resistant.

Similarly, if you move to some electronic items manufacturing company, you will find PTFE spiral wrap on the cables or wires which offers protection to the application from any cut.

The major element used in manufacturing these tubes is Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) which is blessed with superior chemical, physical and electrical properties developed to meet ASTM Standard specifications. The heat shrink Teflon FEP tubing is non-sticky in nature, that is whatever type of element you transit from it does not spoil the base or wall of tubing. Apart from this, these tubes are transparent making it easier to watch the clear flow of elements.

Teflon PTFE Tubing Thriving Solution of Various Electrical Applications

Since our childhood we are taught that iron and few materials are good conductors of electricity and therefore they are coated with plastic sheet which protect the human body from any kind of accident which might take place by touching the naked wires. Well, this application is applied on all types of electrical wires, equipments and appliances. But, have you ever tried to know that what material or plastic coating is used to cover the wires? An answer to this question is fluoropolymers or often referred of teflon PTFE tubing (polytefrafluoroethylene) system. The tubing system is blessed with versatile features and is used in not only the electronic applications but also for various kitchen accessories.

Teflon Tubing

The history of Teflon tubing system goes back to 1938 when it was developed by Dr. Roy Plunkett. The invention of tubing system revolutionized plastic industry to great extent and emerged as an utmost need of this industry.

The versatility of teflon PTFE tubing can be understood from the features like high temperature resistant, chemical resistant and insulating properties adhered in it. It is capable of operating smoothly in all types of conditions whether it is gaseous, liquids or high temperature. The major characters of the teflon tubing are categorized as below:
  • It has low coefficient of friction
  • Offers superior chemical and electrical protection to different products
  • Capable of operating smoothly under extreme temperature up-to 500°F and minimum temperature up-to -454°F
  • Offers superior release properties
  • FDA compliant and USP Class VI approved
  • AWG size varies from zero to 32.

In simple words, it can be said that if you start analyzing the benefits and applications of teflon PTFE tubing than it will not be possible for you to minimize them in words because apart from being used in varied industries this tubing system is used in wide activities that are performed at home as part of our day to day activities.

Teflon PTFE Tubing: Applications and Benefits

PTFE tubing is the fluoropolymer which is used in many industrial applications to make the process smooth and effective. The tubing system used in different industries in different forms like as a spiral wrap in aerospace to cover the wiring, as a tubing in chemical industries and others. Because of the non-sticky nature of the teflon PTFE tubing, it can be used in the food industries to cover the rollers.

Here, we've presented an infographic representing the applications and benefits of the teflon PTFE tubing:

Controlling the Electronic Disruptions Using FEP Probe Covers

FEP probe covers are the fluoropolymers which can be defined as covers that are used to act as a protective sheet on glass and metallic items, which act as probes while working under sensitive and corrosive working conditions. In other words, it can be said that FEP covers are a kind of seal that is applied on metals to get them protected from impact of chemical and heat elements. The encapsulation of FEP cover ensures long age of probes which is blessed with features like chemical resistant, heat resistant, electrical resistant and lubricity.

Probe Covers

The major properties of FEP probe covers may described as below:

  • The standard size of probe covers are available in different sizes (inches) including 1/16 “, 1/8 “, 3/16 “, 1/4 “, 3/8 “;
  • They are capable of working under extreme high temperature going high up-to 400°F;
  • They are available in FEP and PFA teflon tubing system;
  • The normal length of these covers falls in range from 6 inches to 150 inches.

To understand the working of FEP probe covers developed from FEP tubing system a person does not need to visit any industry or chemical plant. The working of these probe covers can be understood from different types of items that are used in our day to day activities. Let's for instance say, a thermometer or screw driver that is used for correcting small electric power issues at our home. While using a screw driver, you would have noticed its front side covered with some plastic item which is mainly applied to get the user protected from any type of electronic current which might take place when the metal of screw driver touches the cable.

Applications in which FEP probe covers are highly used are mentioned below:

  • Communication cables;
  • On different types of wires and cables that are used in electronic equipments manufacturing industries and telecommunication industries;
  • Mated on fabric and films, PTFE mated fabrics are used as belts for electrical insulators and cast films.
