Relying on Performance and Quality From Tef Cap

Industries That Rely On PTFE Tubing

When people talk about PTFE tubing, a lot of different things come to mind. While some people may think about HVAC systems, others think about air conditioning units as they require tubing able to bear extreme temperatures.
At the same time, some people think about laboratories as the tough tubing present there needs to withstand a wide variety of substances and chemicals.
PTFE has outstanding resistance to temperatures, exceptional lubricity and tolerances. Due to its versatility and durability, PTFE tubing is considered imperative in various industries around the globe.

Here are some of the most important industries that rely on PTFE tubing:

The Automotive Industry

If you noticed, your car has a temperature gauge. When running, cars generate a lot of heat. This is particularly true in the case of heat released from the transmission and engine. In such extreme temperatures, PTFE tubing works as an excellent insulation option for wire harnesses due to the exceptional dielectric strength.
As PTFE is quite lubricous itself, it serves as the perfect option for fuel hoses and fluid tubing lines. On the other hand, it is also used extensively in automotive cooling mechanisms due to its ability to withstand cooler temperatures.

The Medical Industry

As many people are still unaware of the biocompatibility of PTFE tubing, its surprising potential still goes undiscovered to a great extent. However, IVs and catheters are often made from PTFE tubing due its chemical inertness and lubricity.

The Fiber Optics Industry

The lubrication PTFE tubing offers makes it the best option to slide over fiber optic cables without destroying its delicate structure. As the tubing is also chemically inert, it makes it viable for use with other materials without the fear of interaction or reaction. PTFE can also be formed into plenty of other shapes.

The Aerospace Industry

The aerospace industry requires materials that can withstand sharp rises and decreases in temperature, are chemically inert and provide smooth flow of fluids. Even the smallest mistake in this industry can put thousands of lives at risk. PTFE is extensively used in wire harness applications in the aerospace industry because of its dielectric strength. PTFE materials can also be used to extrude convoluted tubing that can protect essential cables.
What do you use PTFE for in your specific industrial application? If need reliable PTFE tubing but aren’t sure where to find it, look no further than Tef-Cap.

Corrugated FEP Tubing

The Various Differences Between Teflon FEP Tubing And Other Tubing Systems

Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene(FEP) is a highly preferred material in applications where small diameter tubing is required. FEP displays the same chemical and dielectric characteristics as other fluoropolymers. However, it has a lesser temperature resistance.
The nature of FEP makes it perfect for applications that require broad temperature exposure and exceptional chemical resistance. It is more transparent than most other fluoropolymers and has a slightly higher coefficient of friction.
Its chemical inertness and dependability make FEP tubing perfect for a wide variety of applications across food processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, fluid transferring and water processing.
Here is a quick breakdown of what FEP tubing can offer:
·       It is non-flammable
·       It is available in a wide variety of variants including heat shrink, coiled and convoluted
·       It displays exceptional thermal stability

How Is FEP Tubing Different From PTFE And PFA Tubing?

Even though it has the same nonstick properties, FEP is slightly different from other types of fluoropolymer tubing materials. Here is a quick breakdown of the primary differences:
·       FEP is highly transparent unlike other tubing options so anything being transported through will show up in its original color.
·       Due to its low heat resistance, using FEP tubing in cooking or high heat applications is not common.
·       FEP is highly resistant to UV radiation.

How Is PTFE Different?

PTFE is largely recognized for its application across the cookware industry and its trade name, ‘Teflon’. Here is how it differentiates from FEP tubing. Due to its exceptional heat resistance, PTFE coatings and tubing is used across a number of cooking appliance and cookware.
·       PTFE has high electro-negativity which makes it hydrophobic.

How Is PFA Different?

PFA stands for perfluoroalkoxy alkanes and is significantly different from both other fluoropolymers due to one property – it can be melt-processed. Here are a few more ways how it is different:
·       It has a smaller molecular chain length than other fluoropolymers.
·       PFA has oxygen atoms in their structure unlike other fluoropolymers.
·       PFA materials can be melt-processed repeatedly to change shape or form.
·       The massive difference in the molecular structure give PFA better flow and thermal stability.

PFA, PTFE and FEP tubing differ largely in form, structure as well as properties. This makes all of them perfect for a number of applications. Whether you are looking for spiral wrap PTFE or heat shrink Teflon, check out Tef Cap today.

PTFE Tubing - One Product, Countless Applications

When it comes to Fluoropolymer Tubing, there are more than one resin with different make up and slightly different properties. While FEP and PFA are also commonly used for tubing, the most preferred polymer in this regard has always been PTFE or what we generally call Teflon.
PTFE Teflon tubing is preferred for several reasons and there are many factors that set it apart in tubing manufacturing. The first and foremost of the factors that make it a better option is its low coefficient of friction. If you didn’t already know it, it has the lowest of all the known solids. Other than that, it retains the innate properties of fluorocarbon polymers such as high resistance to chemicals, corrosion, and high temperatures.
So, what do all these properties mean?
It means that PTFE tubing is actually used in a multitude of industries and has a plethora of applications. Here are some of the common ones worth knowing.
Aerospace &Transportation
When it comes to aerospace and transportation technology, PTFE tubing is usually used inside a stainless steel mesh hose. These hoses work more efficiently than regular hoses with rubber tubing as Teflon is hardly affected by the abrasive qualities of fluids used in engines. Due to less friction, PTFE tubes can greatly improve the overall efficiency.
Medical
This may be one of the least known applications of PTFE tubes, but they are quickly replacing the regular tubes used for medical purposes. Due to high lubricity, the tubes are now being used in catheters as they prevent abrasive damage to any other organ or body part.  More and more medical caregivers and healthcare providers are now switching to PTFE tubes from regular tubes.
Chemical Applications
Chemical processing and manufacturing industries require containers and apparatus that don’t react to the product. Teflon is essentially the most inert and durable of all substances known and used in industries. Therefore, PTFE is generally used instead of glass, plastic, metal, or any other material that might react with the chemical contained in it.
Electronics
PTFE also has excellent dielectric properties that make Teflon tubes a well suited option when it comes to insulation of high voltage cables. PTFE tubing is also used for the purpose of isolating conductive surfaces in capacitors.
These are just some of the application of PTFE tubing. Click here to learn more about what makes PTFE the most preferred polymer for these applications.
