PTFE : Advantages and Applications

PTFE CABLES: ADVANTAGEs & APPLICATIONns
Polytetrafluoroethylene or PTFE cables are specially designed for strenuous applications as it has excellent chemical, moisture, temperature, and electrical resistances. These cables found its application in both commercial and residential setups. There are numerous types of PTFE cables available in the market such as PTFE equipment wires, PTFE multi-core cables, compensating & extension (thermocouple cables), PTFE electrical sleeves, PTFE heaters wires, PTFE high voltage cables and various others. Cables made of PTFE material are acknowledged for their durability, flexibility, and reliability. These are appreciated for their low-temperature durability and fire resistance attributes.

ADVANTAGES OF PTFE CABLES
PTFE insulated wires and cables are capable of enduring a high range of temperature starting from    -76º F to 500º F. These cables are specially designed to operate in high current loads in the high-temperature environment, which makes them ideal and safe to use in ovens, industrial wiring, etc.
APPLICATIONS OF PTFE CABLES
PTFE cables are ideal for providing protection and coverage especially to medical devices as they can withstand a wide variety of conditions. Extreme temperatures, friction and corrosive chemicals are some of the conditions usually faced by an automotive wiring. Thus, it requires the safety provided by PTFE material. These cables are widely used in power steering, heated seats, air conditioning, battery applications and various others. Considered as one of the best insulators, these wires are widely used in electrical components across the globe. These cables have the ability to insulate up to 500 volts per mil, which makes them reliable for strenuous applications. Computers, bioengineering, robotics, chemical sciences are some of the other application areas of PTFE cables.
WHY PTFE?
PTFE is a coating material having a number of benefits. As an insulator, it is considered as excellent due to its carbon-fluorine bonds, which makes it extremely flexible and non-reactive. It is also hydrophobic that makes it nonreactive to water. The chemical properties of the PTFE wires ensure their flexibility, bending, and stressing. These wires are also suitable for the wide frequency range. They provide space saving advantages over other less advanced insulators. In addition to all these, low dissipation factor, high dielectric strength, high operating temperatures, resistance to UV radiation and various other factors make PTFE an ideal choice for long-term applications.
The fluorocarbon structure of the PTFE cables makes them a reliable choice for diverse applications, be it residential, commercial or industrial. In addition to this, unusual chemical inertness, excellent thermal stability and unsurpassed electrical properties make these cables perfect for numerous applications. Nowadays, numerous companies are getting involved in the supplying of the PTFE cables. If you want to search such PTFE Cables Suppliers in your area, then an online search will be the best option.

Color Trace FEP Tubing / Striped Tube

Color Trace FEP Tubing is a permanent color line that is embedded into the wall of FEP tubing and will not flake or peel off. Striped Tubing is used for identifying and isolating single lines in a bundle of clear FEP Tubes. Manufactured from FEP resins both the FEP Tubing and as well as the FEP stripe are chemically inert and able to with stand elevated temperatures up to 400°F.
Color Tracing relies on a simple yet eye catching stripe that has been impregnated into the tube which allows installers to run fluid transfer lines quickly and more importantly accurately. Tracking down clogs and blockages in lines is now easier, no more blurry vision when staring at a bundle of clear tubes. Striped Tubing helps you identify , isolate and solve problems in chemical transport lines.
Color Trace Tubing can be produced in several colors , such as red, blue, black, yellow, orange and purple and because it is manufactured from a melt process Color Trace tubes can be produces in long continuous lengths giving it an advantage over Striped PTFE Tubing. Striped Tubing is not a painted line on the OD of the tube Striped Tubing is permanent long lasting identification.

Heat Shrink FEP Probe Covers

Chemically inert and able to with stand high temperatures Tef Cap Industries Heat Shrinkable FEP & PFA Probes Covers offer a piece of mind and protection for costly temperature sensors using High performing Fluoropolymer Tubing.

Tef Cap has been manufacturing heat shrinkable FEP & PFA probe cover for over 30 years and has quickly become the leadein protection and containment with our simple to use and simple to apply heat shrinkable Fluoropolymer products. Our ProbCovers are designed to easily slip over and shrink tight onto the stems of Thermocouples or Probe Assemblies using industrystandard dimensions.

Heat Shrinkable Probe Covers are developed using a melt extrusion process which makes FEP and PFA Probe covers less susceptible to gas and vapor permeation allowing for constant immersion in fluids. Extruded tubing also allows for Probe Covers to be manufactured with a much heavier wall then conventional spray coatings. Smaller diameter covers range between .008” & .010” wall while larger diameter probes will get the benefits of up to .018” thick wall. This extreme wall difference allows Thermocouples, Probes and RTDs to with stand punishment in some of the harshest environments.

How to Shrink PTFE Tubing

PTFE Teflon Tubing has the one of the highest Temperature ratings among the Fluoropolymers, but using Heat Shrink PTFE Tubing comes at a Cost…  Yes the Heat Shrink PTFE is a little bit more money than Heat Shrink FEP or PFA but the biggest difference is how the material shrinks. PTFE is not an easy tube to shrink. Temperatures of 620 F are required for the material to start to shrink and recover, but elevated temperatures and stress left in the tubing make Heat Shrink PTFE very susceptible to linear cracking.

PTFE Tubing will turn from a milky white to clear when the correct temperature has been reached in order for the material to start shrinking.

Relying on Performance and Quality From Tef Cap

Industries That Rely On PTFE Tubing

When people talk about PTFE tubing, a lot of different things come to mind. While some people may think about HVAC systems, others think about air conditioning units as they require tubing able to bear extreme temperatures.
At the same time, some people think about laboratories as the tough tubing present there needs to withstand a wide variety of substances and chemicals.
PTFE has outstanding resistance to temperatures, exceptional lubricity and tolerances. Due to its versatility and durability, PTFE tubing is considered imperative in various industries around the globe.

Here are some of the most important industries that rely on PTFE tubing:

The Automotive Industry

If you noticed, your car has a temperature gauge. When running, cars generate a lot of heat. This is particularly true in the case of heat released from the transmission and engine. In such extreme temperatures, PTFE tubing works as an excellent insulation option for wire harnesses due to the exceptional dielectric strength.
As PTFE is quite lubricous itself, it serves as the perfect option for fuel hoses and fluid tubing lines. On the other hand, it is also used extensively in automotive cooling mechanisms due to its ability to withstand cooler temperatures.

The Medical Industry

As many people are still unaware of the biocompatibility of PTFE tubing, its surprising potential still goes undiscovered to a great extent. However, IVs and catheters are often made from PTFE tubing due its chemical inertness and lubricity.

The Fiber Optics Industry

The lubrication PTFE tubing offers makes it the best option to slide over fiber optic cables without destroying its delicate structure. As the tubing is also chemically inert, it makes it viable for use with other materials without the fear of interaction or reaction. PTFE can also be formed into plenty of other shapes.

The Aerospace Industry

The aerospace industry requires materials that can withstand sharp rises and decreases in temperature, are chemically inert and provide smooth flow of fluids. Even the smallest mistake in this industry can put thousands of lives at risk. PTFE is extensively used in wire harness applications in the aerospace industry because of its dielectric strength. PTFE materials can also be used to extrude convoluted tubing that can protect essential cables.
What do you use PTFE for in your specific industrial application? If need reliable PTFE tubing but aren’t sure where to find it, look no further than Tef-Cap.

The company offers high quality PTFE tubing and a wide variety of other tubing options for industrial clients.
